Diffusion in a Cellular Medium: A (1+1)-Dimensional Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider the diffusion of a material in a one-dimensional medium consisting of a large number of cells separated from the extracellular space by permeable membranes. The extracellular space is completely connected and allows unrestricted diffusion of the material. Furthermore, the material can diffuse within a given cell, i.e., the intracellular space; however, direct diffusion from one cell to another cell cannot occur. There is a movement of material across the permeable membranes between the intraand extracellular spaces. Material from one cell can cross the permeable membrane into the extracellular space, the diffuse through the extracellular space, and eventually enter the intracellular space of a second cell. Here we develop a simple set of model equations to describe this phenomenon and obtain the solutions using an eigenfunction expansion. We show that the solutions obtained using this method are particularly convenient for interpreting data from experiments that use techniques from Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Elasto-Thermodiffusive Response in a Two-Dimensional Transversely Isotropic Medium
The present article investigates the elasto-thermodiffusive interactions in a transversely isotropic elastic medium in the context of thermoelasticity with one relaxation time parameter and two relation time parameters. The resulting non-dimensional coupled equations are applied to a specific problem of a half-space in which the surface is free of tractions and is subjected to time-dependent th...
متن کاملCellular Automata Simulation of a Bistable Reaction-Diffusion System: Microscopic and Macroscopic Approaches
The Cellular Automata method has been used to simulate the pattern formation of the Schlögl model as a bistable Reaction-Diffusion System. Both microscopic and macroscopic Cellular Automata approaches have been considered and two different methods for obtaining the probabilities in the microscopic approach have been mentioned. The results show the tendency of the system towards the more sta...
متن کاملModelling the catalyst fragmentation pattern in relation to molecular properties and particle overheating in olefin polymerization
A two-dimensional single particle finite element model was used to examine the effects of particle fragmental pattern on the average molecular weights, polymerization rate and particle overheating in heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta olefin polymerization. A two-site catalyst kinetic mechanism was employed together with a dynamic two-dimensional molecular species in diffusion-reaction equation. The i...

A model of the moisture diffusion in wood under isothermal conditions taking into consideration coating of the surface of a specimen is presented in a 2-D-in-space formulation. A reliability of a corresponding 1-D model is investigated for a simulation of moisture movement in 2-D medium. This paper presents a technique to determine the width as well as the degree of edges coating of the specime...

Distribution of contact pressure between the bipolar plate and gas diffusion layer considerably affect the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell. In this regard, an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is developed to predict the contact pressure distribution on the gas diffusion layer due to dimensional errors of the bipolar plate ribs in a proton exchange membrane fuel ce...
